Who we are
Better Glasgow is run by Full-House, based in Glasgow, Scotland. We are the data controller for the information described here. Contact us at hello@fullhousegrowth.co.uk.
What we collect
- Account details: your name and email address, from Google when you sign in. We only ask Google for your name and email.
- Your activity: the campaign steps you complete, the outcomes you log, event RSVPs, the role you pick and event check-ins.
- Replies you choose to share: if you paste or forward a reply from a representative or company to verify an outcome, we store it privately against your account.
- Campaigns you create: the details you enter, including event meeting places.
- Profile photo and bio (optional): shown on your public profile and next to what you do, unless you hide your name. Photos are shrunk and re-encoded before upload, which removes hidden data such as location. Photos from newer accounts are checked by a reviewer first. When you set up your account you also confirm you're 13 or over; we record that you did.
- Your home area: if you add your postcode, we look up your council ward and constituency, and offer local place names from OpenStreetMap so you can pick the neighbourhood you'd call home. We store the area names you end up with, not the postcode. Others see your neighbourhood (or only your ward, if you choose).
- XP, levels and badges: worked out from the actions you take.
- Posts, follows and comments: each step you take or reply you log becomes a post on the campaign, along with any note you add. We also store who and what you follow, your cheers and comments, and anyone you block or report.
- Photos: photos you add to posts are public once shown. We shrink them and remove their hidden data, including location, before they are uploaded. Some are checked by a reviewer first.
- Notifications: we keep a list of your notifications. If you turn on phone notifications, we store a push address for that device (issued by your browser's push service, such as Apple or Google) so we can send them. Turning them off deletes it.
- Grow Better Glasgow: everyone follows our own campaign to grow Better Glasgow, so you hear our occasional updates. You can unfollow it on its page. Its steps check things we already hold, such as whether notifications are on or how many people you invited have taken a step.
- Crews: which crews you belong to. Crew members can see each other's names (or "Someone"), levels, posts and whether you've taken a step this week. Nobody outside the crew can.
- Campaign map pins: organisers can pin a campaign near a postcode. We store an approximate point (about 100 metres), never the postcode. "Near me" on the map uses your location only on your device to move the map; it isn't sent to us.
- Neglected building pins: if you pin a building, its name, your note, photos and the pin are public, with your name (or "Someone" if you hide it). Pins from newer accounts are checked by a reviewer first. If you say a building is still neglected, we record that you did; others only see a count.
- Reply inbox: if you forward a reply to your private Better Glasgow address, we keep who sent it, its subject and the first 600 characters, visible only to you, and use it to verify your step. Replies from official addresses (councils, parliaments, governments) verify automatically; nothing is shared.
- Have your say alerts: if you turn them on, we keep which kinds of development you want to hear about and use your home ward (and wards you follow) to match new planning applications, public notices (traffic orders, licence applications) and council consultations. Turn them off any time.
- Planning applications on the map: these are public records from Glasgow City Council's planning portal, collected by PlanIt. They contain no information about you.
- Invites: if you join through someone's invite link, we record who invited you so they can see how many people joined through them (not who).
The messages you write to representatives or companies are sent through other services (such as WriteToThem or a company's own contact page), not stored by us. Postcodes you enter to find your representatives are sent to mySociety's MapIt service to look up your areas and are not stored by us.
How we use it
- To run your account and save your progress across devices.
- To show campaign totals, such as how many actions and replies a campaign has had.
- To review new campaigns before they go public, and to deal with reports of misuse.
What other people can see: on live campaigns, your first name and the first letter of your surname, your ward, your level and the kind of step you took (for example, "Todd V. from Partick wrote to their councillor"). You can switch your name off in your profile at any time, and you will appear as "Someone" from your ward. Ward leagues show totals for each ward, not individuals. The Hall of fame lists the top 10 people for results such as friends brought in, campaigns started and verified actions, by first name and initial; it never shows XP, and you can switch it off in your profile. Your XP, badges and the details of anything you write to a representative stay private to you. Notes you add to your posts and your comments are public. If you show your name, people can open your profile (your level, ward, how many steps you've taken and your recent posts) and follow you; nobody can see who follows you. People you block can't see your posts or comments, and you can't see theirs.
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Our lawful bases under UK GDPR are performing our agreement with you (running the service) and our legitimate interest in keeping it safe. Some information, such as campaigns you support, may reveal your views; we treat it as private and use it only to provide the service.
Who processes it for us
- Supabase, for our database and sign-in (hosted in Europe).
- Vercel, which hosts the app.
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
- OpenStreetMap, which supplies the map images (your device asks it for map tiles directly).
- Your device's push service (such as Apple, Google or Mozilla), only if you turn on phone notifications.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. Ask us to delete your account and we will remove your personal information within 30 days. Campaign totals stay, without anything that identifies you.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, export or delete your information, or object to how we use it, by emailing hello@fullhousegrowth.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Cookies and storage
We use your browser's storage to keep you signed in and to save progress on your device. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
